So there is no way around not getting the new bearing casing and a newer axle really?

Although 1st toyota parts lists a t100 axle shaft, im willing to bet now that I think about it, that its the updated tundra shaft.

I wish this job wasnt such an annoyance. I honestly just dont have the freetime to do it now that you explained it more since I work very long hours. I think ill bite the bullet, get all the parts and call it a day. My boss at the shop said I could get everything needed for about 400 a side.

I would go by way of the salvage yard but i checked on returns. They wont take it back even if it is bent period, they also want more for a used bearing casing than online or the dealer and the axleshaft they said would be 150..for 100 more i can get a new one..

phooey..

I think taking the axle apart is easier than other jobs you've already done.

It looked like it was going to be a real bi*ch but I found a clue when looking up bearing specs. It is a deep groove bearing, which means the balls inside are spaced out and held by a soft bronze cage. Pried that out, moved all the balls to one side and the bearing came apart. I did 3 this way and feel that the least amount of effort was expended (also did not shock/damage/bend any parts.)

When the bearing comes apart the brake will fall off the axle and you are left with the shaft and some rings on it (bearing, retainer, etc.) Least effort rule again: grind the rings down to about 2mm and start hitting them with a sharp chisel. They crack and fall off.

It was MORE effort to get the new bearing, then retainer hammered onto the axle with a long pipe (too long to fit in my press.)

Of course it is harder the first time, my long winded replies are meant to convey all the crap I wished I knew before I dug into this.

I gotcha eleet. I just wish I wasnt working 7 days a week, its near impossible to get anything done. Today is the first time in a month I dont have to be at work till 3pm EST.

In any case, I called the dealer online I have dealt with before, they want almost as much NOT shipped as my shop can get it, called carol and same deal-shipping kills it, almost 100 bucks b/c of weight.

Tried another yard for parts, again I am left with "we have to order that part and its non refundable". So I am left with 450 dollars in parts from the dealer through my shop and thats with a discount. Its a shame I cant do much else, but there are no pick and pulls here and i been scouring everywhere for the past month. I may attempt to do it myself if I get some timeoff but I dont think thats happening.

Talking to a friend he said just do it and be over with, its only money. Buy once and cry once.. Thank you again for all your help, I greatly appreciate it. Im hoping this is it, no more issues. If it isnt I dunno wtf to do, im sick and tired of fixing this truck.

phooey..

Shaft, seals, bearing, bearing casing, every non replaceable part.

The shaft was the most expensive at like 350 bucks, everything else was cheaper. Nothing was able to be sourced by outside vendors really besides the bearing which was only 10 dollars less and some misc stuff. I just got it all through the stealer, thats with 20% off through my shop discount too.

I tried sourcing from like 3 places online, shipping killed it all. I tried sourcing from a yard they couldnt gurantee a straight axleshaft and no refunds, we dont have pick and pulls here. I just finally gave up and bit the bullet so to speak. If this doesnt fix my issue I have had it and im selling the truck.

Ok, its as good as its gonna get.

The truck has a new pass side axle shaft and all associated parts. It still has a little shimmy on take off but it isnt bad and it still vibrates a little above 55mph. I also replaced all 4 balljoints.

I think its the tires/rims that are causing whatever else I feel now. I bought a set of very nice looking SR5 alloys b/c mine looked like dirt and when I swapped them I couldnt get them to balance properly at all, I tried my own shop 3x and several others to no avail. We shall see wtf happens when I get new tires and put them on the mickey thompson rims I got.

Otherwise if this is the best it gets, well wtf can i do. I tried everything. Only other option is to sell it and buy something else and make payments which I dont want to do.

Thanks to everyone for thier held, I really appreciated it.

Not clear on one ting. Did you find someone to swap with to try out another set of rims and tires? Doesn't matter if they are 15's, 16's or whatever.

Working on that atm. I did do it awhile back with someone with 16's, less vibe but it was still there due to the axle shaft afaik. Gonna give it another shot swapping in a few weeks when my buddy comes by.

I already swapped the tire that was on the bad axle shaft awhile back to the front, vibe was horrible above 55mph. Swapped it to the rear and the vibe at speed is pretty much gone, but the little vibe on take off remains.

If that dont work, like I said..something is screwed royally b/c I replaced or had everything checked like 10x by now.

How about brake drag? is that gone?

I have some tire issues too, like you I just swapped them around to where it felt best.

I think the idiots at the stealer balanced them on the truck when I went to get my tie rod recall. They said the wheels are bent. Now that I fixed the bent axle and bearings, the wheels don't wobble, we will see if an off truck wheel balance helps any.
