Body Damage is Cool

Hit the nail on the head there. BMW and Mercedes designed the JK platform.Probobly why it handles more like a Toureg than a Wrangler. Supposedly the first production run has Mercedes engine blocks but I haven't been able to confirm it yet.
It certainly wouldn't suprise me if Chrysler stepped in and overcomplicated the soft top. I've heard they're a royal pain to close up when it's cold and the vinyl is stiff.
Here's a juicy tidbit for ya... Rumor has it the 2009 JK lineup will include a VW designed and manufacted diesel engine mated to a specfically geared transmission for maximum fuel economy. 30 MPG and 300 ft lbs of torque in a short wheel base 4x4, what a concept!
Chrysler is keeping the diesel JK tightly wrapped so we may not hear anything official for some time.
If they do manage to pull it off and offer the diesel JK with $2.99 a gallon gas for 3 years and a lifetime warranty it'll be hard to pass up. As soon as gas hits $5 a gallon (this weekend?)all the new 15 MPG cars and trucks are in real trouble.
