Getting the Wheeling Fever
That's an awesome lookin 3.4 Runner. Mine is still a stocker pretty much. How do I post pics on this site. Want to post something here.
Thanks for the input about the idle oscilation. Coolant is fine. Still looking for a vacuum leak. Checked TPS too and it seemed within tolerances.
As far as camping/sleeping in the back of a Cherokee, I would take out the rear "seat" and leave the "back". That would add some room. Then move seats all the way forward--place twin inflatable mattress and have a go. Trouble is that the armrest would get in the way which sucks.

Read the FAQ for photo formatting; pix must be webhosted; photobucket for example.

On air mattresses now, they've come out with a 40" wide one, so look around; they're made for SUVs.

I like Cherokees but the biggest problem is they are Unibodt (no frame). With my type of wheeling I could see them falling apart pretty quick. I really like the older two-door ones.

I agree about the Unibody. That's what I really don't like, and I don't think sliders do much that are just bolt onto the rockers...BUT...
I bought one anyway...yup...it had just too much appreal with the "Limited" package and lots of trail stuff already on it. If I can get away with it I'll keep the 4Runner, but my wife has some say in that dept unfortunately. Gonna be a new experience...hopefully a good one.

That, and weak axles, that as a bonus are a pain to regear. Compare a D35 diff to any Toyota diff sometime, the robustness of the Toy diff is amazing in comparison, and they are very easy to work on.

By the time you fix a Cherokee to be robust and have the gearing options of a 4Runner with a Marlin Ultimate, you may as well have done a coilover SAS on a newer 4Runner and have a more reliable vehicle to boot. If you want to wheel a stocker, the Cherokee may or may not get the nod.
