I'll give someone the complete set if they'll burn it to something digital (and give me a copy). I have no way to get cassette to any form of digital.

A drivers license is a conditional use permit and one of the conditions of its use is to answer questions when stopped by law enforcement.

Say what? There is no conditional use for a California drivers license. You may have it confused with "implied consent" for DUI test and even then field sobriety and field breathalizers are voluntary. They can only make you take a test after your in custody.

You are only required to verify your identity, address, vehicle registration, and auto insurance coverage.

What I was referring to is that having a drivers license is a privilege and not a right. The privilege of having one comes with conditions of its use, one of the conditions is the possibility of being stopped at checkpoints, and being open to searches, and providing your identity, address, vehicle registration, and auto insurance coverage, and even state where you have been. Unlike being in the act of driving a car, had he just been walking down the street, he would not have had to answer any of the Q's or even provide an ID card w/o the officer having "probable cause", and refusing to talk to an officer isn't "probable cause".

Not confused at all, I know you don't have to submit to any of the DUI field tests. However not submitting to them you are voluntarily giving up your Dl for 6 mos, which is one of the conditions of a DL. If you know you are drunk and decided to drive anyways, it would be far wiser to just refuse the field tests and surrender your license on the spot, providing you weren't in an accident there isn't any arrest/court appearance/fines, just loosing your license for 6mos. I am not sure how the insurance companies take this, they really can't increase your rates/drop you for a DUI since you didn't get charged w/one, though I imagine they have some loophole to charge you more anyways.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.

Bump for another checkpoint going up, this one a little closer to me.

Not surprising, as the Distrikt has a rich history of violating citizens' rights in the name of preventing crime. I have no reason to visit that area, but I expect there will be a few people testing the police response with lawsuits already drawn up just waiting to be filed if they slip up, and that's just fine by me. The more the collective ignorance of the mayor, city council, and police dept leadership is exposed, the happier I am. Living near DC, it's like I can watch the Three Stooges just by turning on the local news. It would be funnier if they weren't so criminally incompetent.

"Police say recent drive-bys and such violence is so bad that they're going to stop and question motorists driving through and if they don't like their reason, they'll be refused entry"

Refused entry to a public street, can't wait to see that lawsuit.

Agree!

The operator of the motor vehicle failed to comply with an order from a Federal Agent to pull over to the secondary lane.

The detainment process was already initiated at the check point process.........

Motorist non-compliant to the regulatory guidelines = IDIOT !!!!!!

I don't get it...if anyone just says I'm from the U.S., they just let you go? What's the point?

And if you have to show proof, since when do any of you carry around your birth certificate, assuming you still even have one?

What a total freaking joke.

I have a little idea...about putting those jokers on the damn border where they should be in the first place along with an actual fence!!!

Then they can ask for papers all damn day long, like they should be doing in the first place. This is not Nazi Germany or Communist Russia. America does not and SHOULD not have check points internally.

Well said!
