Your AWD vehicle has a differential or some type of viscous coupling in between the two axles. If it is an open diff, you wouldn't be able to move with the front driveshaft disconnected. Since you can move, that indicates that you have an LSD in that center differential. If you drive it continuously with the front drive shaft removed, there is a decent chance you'll wear out that LSD fairly quickly. It would be like driving a vehicle with a rear LSD and one rear axle shaft removed.
