Getting the Wheeling Fever

I tried doing a search, but couldn't find what i wanted.

my son has put a bigger 22RE in his 87'toy...I read somewhere on here that adding a new exhaust system with bigger diameter pipe helps let the engine flow better...could someone point me where i can find the info
(i thought it said you go to 2 1/4" pipe)
