Removed the wheel to replace my brake pads and one of the lug nuts were seized up on the lug stud...ended up breaking it off to get the lug nut off.

I now have to remove the rotor and I have the replacement lug stud and nut, took the end cap off of the rotor, but I see what I think is the spindle for the 4-Wheel drive.

How the heck do I get the rotor off of the car, so I can replace the lug stud?

once you have the wheel off and then the caliper you have to remove the philips head screwthat holds the rotor on. mine was seized up pretty bad so i just drilled the head off until the rotor was free. then the rotor will slide rite off. you dont need to remove the hub to remove the rotor.

Defboy, thanks for the response...I'm wondering if my rotor is warped or what-not, because I did remove the two large philips screws, no problem from that front, but I can't even tap it off using a mallet/mini-sledge...sounds like you didn't have to do much to get it off after.

I'm wondering if I have to take a torch to the actual rotor to heat it up to be able to remove it.

This is on the driver's side...also, just to make sure, this is a 4x4 w/ the auto-locking hubs for 4WD, hope you have the same...I'm thinking the rotor/hub is different on the 4x2's, because it does look different than most, but I could be wrong. You don't have any pics for reference do you?


For now, I managed to file down the remainder of the broken lug stud and at minimum, can put a new lug nut on it to drive until I figure this one out, but if you have any more hints, more than happy to try them out.

Chances are it's rusted on there. I'd be carefull with heat, don't want to cook the hubs and bearings! Soak it down with some penetrating oil, let it sit over night and try again to tomorrow. You could also try using a harmonic puller or something simular if you have access to one.

you need to use a puller on the rotor to get it off. tose two phillips head screws are used to remove the rotor if you look at the rotor where you had removed the screws you will find another set of screw holes next to those. put the screws into those holes and tighten then one quater turn at a time this will pull the rotor off. P.S. it won't hurt to use some oil.

Ya, by using the Philips head screws you basically make a harmonic puller and the rotor comes pretty easily. The only thing you need to watch for is use a really large Philips head screw driver so you don't strip the heads out. You can get hew Philips head screws at the auto parts store to replace the ones you use. Highly recommended because they end up galled or stripped out.

If the phillips screws are to short the six bolts that hold your hubs on are the same size, just remove a few and slowly work the rotor off. Thats how I get my rear drums off also.
