You can get you a new timing cover from EB for 50-ish bucks.
I'd order it now and you can install it as they finish up your head. You can get a new timing kit too from EB, with the steel guides, rather than plastic.
Is all of the plastic guide that broke, all there? If pieces are missing, then they worked their way down to the oil pan. IF this is the case, you'll wanna remove your oil pan to get those pieces outta there. Those pieces will block the oil flow at the sump screen, and stop oil flow in the engine. Trust me, I bought a used engine with a "rattle" problem. Wasn't a rattle, is was a knock - bad knock. Ended up rebuilding the entire engine, because plastic guide pieces were blocking all oil flow.

i will be calling EB monday morning and ordering a new cover and steel guide timming set. hopfully ill get it around the time that i get my head back.
the peices were sitting right at the bottom of the timming cover they were too long to make it all the way into the pan. i may go ahead and pull the pan. my question is should i go ahead and replace the oil pump or just swap my existing one onto my new cover.

The pumps are pretty bulletproof; so your choice.

x2 on removing the oil pan and cleaning out the debris. The boss for the drain plug stands up about an inch, so you never get the bottom junk out.

well now i have an not so happy post to make, i got a call from the mechine shop today and they said that they are going to have to order quite a few parts for my head and its going to cost about an extra $100 i was at the machine shop and talked to one of the workers a few days ago and they had said my parts were already ordered, i get the feeling there trying to shaft me out of $100. i told them to save all the bad parts because i want to see them

I doubt they are trying to screw you, most of these little machine shops are reputable. By chance were they valve guides , seals, and/or screw tappets? If so, not surprising at all.

well i went down to the mechine shop today and took a look at things, and im not so mad anymore, one of the valves was worn so bad is looked like a half moon and was almost sharp enough to shave with and the rest of them were worn to the point where they would have been out of spec by the time they were machined, and there was quite a bit of play in the valve guides.

BTW, though I used a tap to clean out carbon in the hole between #3 and #4, and that should be fine, EB replied to me thusly:

>most do while the bolt threads are 90%.
