just put the new hg on. tourqued everything down to specs..turned the engine over to remove the old oil and water from block. while doing so, we noticed a masive oil leak coming from bewteen the head and block...head was shaved 12 ths..block none..cleaned all the old gasked meteral from block...block looked good...the hg i used is "multi layered" from *****. engs...... what i was thinking is a bad hg or i missed some old gasket meterial on the block...i noticed the top and bottom layer on the gasket were loose...dont remeber just where though....should i call for a new gasket, or just check the block and clean it again?....the truck is a 94 w/88 long block..94 intake..i had no leakes before the hg change. we even drove the truck around the yard..never over heating it...any ideas?...please ??

Did you ensure the dowel holes were deep enough for the head to sit flat after milling? This would be a reason for not seating well. Hopefully that is not the issue cuz now that the head is torqued down, that would warp it good <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Dowels are a good guess, as is the height of the front cover.
The other critical issue is tightening the head bolts in the right order - from the center outwards.

Did you clean EVERYTHING out of the head bolt holes in the block? Did you use carb spray with the sprayer straw down the hole, followed by compressed air? If not, you may have hydraulic locked the head bolts on oil or anti-freeze in the bottom of the bolt holes, giving you false torque readings. Bolt holes MUST be clean, and head bolts MUST be lightly lubed on the threads and under the heads.
