Seems to me like with all the $$$ Frank saved with the wife's Santa Fe, he ought to be slapping one of those bad boys in and done with his S/C shenanigins... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I'm looking at it, but want to wait until I get the yard open - then I'll have plenty of parts and can cut up a Montero frame for a "true" engine/transmission/firewall rolling chassis jig and pull a 3800 engine for test fitting with the various transmission/t-case options.
Even if it all will fit, there's still a lot of work to make that swap. I might even prefer to use another truck for any attempt if the present truck is running ok.
We'll see - first I need the space, a welder, the parts (cheap) and the time.
I do like that swap, but I wish the 60* 3900 engine had a factory blower package. I think the 90* engine will be a tight fit side-to-side.

I wonder if there is a trade off between the 60* and 90* in the form of the whole blower/intake assembly sitting lower in the 90*, and thus clearing the hood better.
Haven't kept up on yours, is it fitting under the hood okay?

Sure there is - the 90* sits lower and the lower intake manifold would be easy to adapt to a blower even if one wasn't already available. The width is one issue, but the other is that 90* V6s usually need balance shafts where 60* V6s do not. Any serious buildup of a 3800 requires a double roller timing chain which means elimination of the balance shaft. The solution is to balance the rotating assembly, but I don't know if it gets rid of all vibration or not. I would expect it would be ok if extremely close attention was paid to weight balance, bore alignment angles and power balance - making sure that each cylinder produced equal power. Mine has a small scoop about 2" in height for blower clearance. The 3800 might fit without a scoop, but I suspect the oil pan would have to be highly modified. Frank

I think a BL would effectively lower the engine and make the 90* deeper into the wheel wells. If it's the wideness of the 90* that seems to the challenge, not sure lowering the placement will help.
