Getting the Wheeling Fever

Just a thought, I didn't really investigate.....but I wonder if I could put a GenII body on my 98 Sport? I miss the Bouncy seats and the height in the back taken up by the under mounted spare. I do a lot of off road when I hunt and get my headlights covered with muck so I also miss the headlight washers at night on my way out. Now I know that there is a difference in the suspension, between leaf springs and torsion bars, but I wonder about the body bolting on? has anyone heard of this?

I'm not sure about the body mounts, but I do know that the engine sits further forward in relation to the front wheels on a Sport. That alone would probably make it a questionable swap.
The argument could be made that you could make it work, but if you are after a Gen2, why not just buy a Gen2?

Well, I am going to buy a Gen II. I had been thinking of getting an SR with a good body and pulling the body and trying a 3.8 conversion but it just occured to me that I might be better off switching the bodies. The Sport with the 24 valve seems to have a bit more pepe......but honestly, I think the 3.8 is a better idea. I've looked at some of the conversation by doing a search but haven't been able to get anything concrete, mostly ideas and conjecture. I'm sure the info is there, I just have to sift through it.

The 3.8L swap is very interesting to me - particularly with an M90 blower. I'm waiting for one to turn up in the yard, but might have a long wait.
Charlie (Old Colt) has done a 3.8L block swap using DOHC 3.0L heads - it's definitely a mixed breed, but he does have it running and could likely provide some good information.
Another swap idea I like is the S/C version of the GM 3800 Series II engine - the L67 platform. Being a 90* "V", it's wider than than the 3.0L and would be a tight fit on a Gen1 - not sure about the Gen2s - but it is a low profile and might work with several transmission options. This one hasn't been done and would require a lot of research - some of which I've done.

With the right mix and match of parts, it would be possible to drop in a GM 3800 and still maintain the Active trac t-case.

Ya couldn't pay me to use a Northstar in a Go-kart... Many issues with heads/gaskets, starter position & all around reliuability.
SC 3800 is a Great idea.... Multibell 700-r4 w/ activetrac.
