Getting the Wheeling Fever

On my 88 4Runner I have a problem with the automatic trans. For some reason the hub on the torque converter pushes back into the pump. Of course it causes big problem with wearing out the seal and damage to the pump and the converter. I bought this from someone who did a lot of work to it. It seems that the clearance I need is 1/8" to 1/4". I was wondering if anyone has ever had this problem. Also could the bell housing be wrong, I have been wondering if there are different bell housings, and if it could possibly be a manual tranny bell housing. Oh and by the way its a 22RE motor. So any help would be appreciated.
