The engine on my daughters 1995 4Runner (Automatic Tranny)
will sometimes surge while stopped at a light. The surge is sometimes large enough to engage the transmission so her vehicle starts to move. Has any body else experienced this problem and if so, what is the fix?

Hi there. Sorry I haven't posted in quite some time. My work keeps me away from the computer
for weeks at a time.

You can go to the auto store or WallMart and get Gunk for throttle body ingestion, and hit all linkages on body, check your computer to, cause the computer may be acting up. Or get you a manual at the auto store, also I would just call your nearest dealer and ask for advice, anyway personally I'd buy the book from the auto store. Good luck.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
It's likely you have an air pocket in your cooling system. I'm not sure which engine you have, but have had this happen on earlier yota's. If you have some car ramps, put the truck on them to make the front of the truck higher than the rest. This makes the radiator the highest point in the cooling system. take the radiator cap off and warm the truck up till the thermostat opens up. Run the heat (front and rear) also, this will make sure there are no air pockets in the heater core and lines. Top off the radiator as needed.

Billydkid - I will give this a try along with some gunk to clean out the fuel delivery system. I am curious as to why an air pocket in the cooling system would cause the engine to rev? By the way, the vehicle has the V6 engine.

I believe the air pocket being at one of the sensors causes incorrect coolant temp readings. I have had it happen several times, and know it has been a common post on here. I had a slow leak in my radiator long ago, I could always tell when I needed to add water when it would "surge" at idle. The water wasn't low enough to show up on the temp guage.
