Time of year to put it away for the winter. I like driving my truck, and will miss it. As a winter ride, I have a 1986 S10 extended cab, with a blazing 4 cylinder gas and auto transmission. It pulls away faster, but the heavier 1994 with 32 less hp is slightly faster on the highway. That auto must really make the truck slower, I can't imagine with a 5 speed the gas truck would be THAT gutless.
Fuel mileage has been good, no issues with it at all. I repaired the thermostat cover leak, but then it started to leak at the thermostat housing where it meet the head. Something to fix through the winter. If I break the bolts off, then I'm not rushing to fix it for work the next day.
I'll be glad to get back into it in the spring.

Winter has for the most part come and gone, and so I took the truck out and got it on the road today. Of course it snowed today, wouldn't expect any less <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> .
I was nervous about removing the thermostat housing, as I figured the housing bolts would break off, but they all spun out with no problem. Made a new gasket, used a bit of sealant, and all is good. No more coolant leaks.
I kind of forgot just how slow the diesel is, especially compared to the gasser. Still, the fuel mileage, and sound, is worth it. The gasser had an ignition issue that was making it so slow, and after repairing that it became better, though still limited.
The truck had came with clear taillights and LED bulbs, but were very dim, because the LED's were facing the wrong way. Angled LED's are available somewhere, so I angled mine with a mini cut-off wheel and some super glue. Taillights are much better. I had actually removed them for over a year and put regular taillights on so I wouldn't get rear-ended due to poor lighting.
Muffler is starting to go, so that is something else to repair. It doesn't even sound nice, just sounds like a truck with a bad muffler.
I tested the injectors, and they have a crappy spray pattern. I have a spare set, so I think I will rebuild them and install them some time in the future. A proper spray pattern isn't going to make it worse, that is for sure.

Cheers for now.

Went to start it yesterday, and it didn't want to go. Rather cool out, as it was just above freezing. Turns out the glow plugs are pooped. I think it's because I don't wait for the timer to shut them off when it's warmed a slight bit, and it's too much heat for them. The timer won't run when the engine is warm enough, but will come on up to that point, even though it will start ok.
These ones only lasted about a year. Good thing I ordered a second set when I ordered the first ones.

Picked up a set of used wheels the other day for the old truck. Besides weighing twice as much as the other wheels that were on it, I think they look better. They're 15" too, so finding tires will be a little easier.
Old school 15" with white letters. At least the potholes won't kill the rims haha.
