Pretty much everything in the front is brand new including the head. The block itself has over 130k on it but the head and other stuff was replaced a couple months ago.
I haven't ran it in a while being I was deployed once again with the Army.
While trying to drive to Eugene...I could hardly go 65mph, I shift it into 4th gear and it doesn't want to go there.
I have never replaced the fuel pump and I don't recall replacing the fuel filter in over 2 years.
But after trying to get to 55..I had to pull over at the rest stop and then it shut off. Smoke was coming out but I don't know where.
My question and concern is that I have a feeling that the oil pump or something else is toast on it or it is not distributing oil to the proper place or something. Could this cause a lack of power or the failure to maintain highway speed?
I mean if the oil pump was suspect, it shouldn't start right? Or am I displaying the symptoms of a bad fuel filter? I mean I just thought a bad fuel filter would never make it get to highway speed.
Right now..I am going to replace the fuel filter, fuel pump in the tank with new filter for it also, and the ECU.
Right now it starts and it idles fine but it just doesn't want to go over 65mph
You guys at 4x4wire rock.....and I hope this board runs forever.....like my 4runner dudes.
Cheers....it could be worst but I hope its just a simple fix.

what color was the smoke? that could help determine the problem.

It was not white s I could tell..more of like something was burning in the engine part. Maybe old oil or cleaning agents that on the outside of the engine.

Does it sound normal?
And how does it behave - can you just not get the RPMs up (e.g., foot floored, but it just sits at 3k o something) or rather that it's revving high, but going nowhere?

It's seems like it gets up there but does not go anywhere.
I'm gonna do a complete tune up and see where it goes.

Dont replace all that stuff just yet. Throwing parts is expensive and stupid.
First thing i'd check is timing. It could be off a few degrees. Make sure you jumper the correct pins on the diagnostic connector.
Also check for vacuum leaks. Then a compression check. Fuel and oil pressure checks.

I appreciate it alot but I already have those parts. Not really buying everything in excess.
Will check those

Fuel and oil pressure checks. x2. just throwing in parts that "might" happen to fix the problem is a great way to waste your money. do the proper tests to determine exactly what you need. if what im reading is correct, you were seeing a darker colored smoke, maybe close to black. if thats true, then it sounds like it's running rich, or putting in to much fuel.

After nearly 375k on the lower part of the block, it's toast. I shouldn't complain because I knew I should have rebuilt the lower since I got the whole top off anyways.
I have another lower block ready to go just gotta take it out and work on it.
