Any body have any experiance with towing a sportage with Warn lockouts and auto tranny.Can I tow with 4 on the ground? Do I need a disconnect of any kind,what is reccomended.Thanks for any help or advice. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />[color:"blue"] [/color]

How far are you towing it? I think the owners manual addresses this question.
Make sure your hubs are unlocked and put transfer case in "N". On a manual I would put trans in neutral also, but in an automatic I would assume to do the same. Maybe that is what the interlock override is for by the shifter.

My 2 cents worth would be for a long trip to mark and disconnect the drive lines. For something short, just put the t-case in neutral.

The auto T-case does not have a "N" detent.

I believe it does....at least the one I sold to Dave had it.

A 200 mile one way would probably be the longest I would tow it.My T case doesn't have a neutral indicator but if i get it in the right spot there is no drive.Someplace I read that you should stop from time to time,start the car and run thru the gears to pump tranny fluid around.Thanks for the info,still looking for more <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

I think the book also states to tow from rear or on trollies if towed from front, guys am I right or wrong ?

i wouldnt tow an auto sportage on all 4s to start with the the tailshaft will spin slowly and with no oil pressure from the toqrue converter not spining y may stuff the box expecially if u are travelling 200miles

I believe that the manual says to tow no more than 500 miles a day without driving it. Don't believe it stated manual only not automatic.. If anyone has a owners manual, scan the pages about towing and post it as an image. I'll look for my manual tonight.
With the transfer case in neutral (the stop between 4 hi and 4 low) the tail shaft shouldn't spin.

Sportage automatics do not have a neutral in the transfer case. (Actually it's there but there's no detent for it). Sportage stick shifts do have a neutral in the transfer case.

The reason is for safety and liability concerns. If the xfer case had a neutral you could put it neutral and even with the automatic in park the vehicle will roll. And since folks who own automatics NEVER use the parking brake the safety concern is real.

With this in mind you cannot flat tow an automatic any considerable distance, even with manual hubs. While the front diff and front driveshaft won't spin the rear will. Which will spin the xfer case. The tailshaft on the transmission will spin which could damage it with no lubrication from the tranny pump. The alternatives are to dolly the rear wheels or remove the rear driveshaft.

Since a Sportage stick shift DOES have a neutral you can flat tow it with no concerns.
