hey guys, read thru some posts, good info here. I been in and out of 4x4 most of my life. Younger I had a 84 xcab with 33's with a 3" lift,.....let my brother-in-law talk me out of that one. Had a stock 82 jeep cj-7 with 33's no lift. Sold it in a money bind,....should have kept it and starved,........ Just bought a 87 toyota(beater) it has 5" susp lift with a 3" body lift. It has new 35x12.50 BF mud terrains. I paid $500 for the thing [img] http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq2c2Npr ]http://www.postimage.org/Pq2c2Npr.jpg[/image]

yea I think it was a good deal. Gonna take alot of work. Carb won't open up. I think a mild cleaning or a vacum line or even a fuel filter. Has a leak or two,... nothing major. Little rust, alternator was out when i bought it. But i bought it for my 2 sons, something to play around in. with scrap iron 7cents/ hundred if i part it out I think I can get my money out of it.

with alittle reading from Screbs web page and alot of searches on the forums, My $500 invest is purring like a kitten,....errrr (with a slight head cold) The idiot that owned it before had disconnectd all the vaccum lines, egr valves, vaccum switches, wires,...why disconnect wires,...?
The breather has rust holes in it, any good intake breather conversions out there? or any good breathers?
also I had to put a new alternator on it,.. then it reminded me when i had my 84,...any water pruff alternators because of the location and the body lift it's kinda exsposed to the elements.

am i correct about the efi and front suspension,....? Could be a carb, 87 was the last year of carbed 4WDs, but yeah, it should have IFS.

It seems a lot of users convert the IFS to solid. Lots more options, plus a lot more damage tolerant. My 88 IFS breaks if I sneeze and turn the steering wheel at the same time. I'm guessing the price is right, too, or else a lot of people just have a lot more money than I do.

Take a few pics of the front suspension and frame, we can prob baly tell if it's an 87 that's been SASed. Doing the SAS to a formerly IFS-based rig dds several inches of lift, so if you're 5-8" over stock height, unless you have some mondy leaf springs, it's probably a former IFS vehicle. And yes, on trucks carb was optional until they changed the body style in '89.

Okay, you found the data plate. The other place to look for the VIN is on the frame, just aft of the front pax side wheelwell. See if they match or not. Carfax query is what I usually use. Any shiny new rivets for the VIN tab on the dashpad?
A stocker EFI would more likely have an EFI cab badge rather than 4x4 badge. That's aft of your door on the cab post.
