So my 2.6 is on it's last leg, and while looking for a good 4.3 to swap in I stumbled upon an 89 raider V6, 5 speed in good condition that is for sale. I can pick up this one for about what I expect to spend on a 4.3 swap, and I'm wondering which would be the better plan.

and 2 door V6 5 speeds are relatively uncommon, which makes the cool factor that much higher <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

I may have found a 4.3L 5 speed GMC Jimmy, would I be the first with a GMod 5speed? all the exclusivity of a V6 5 speed with more power and cheaper parts, sounds good to me.

Gonna be an NV3550.

It depends on what you want to do with your truck when you are done. Also how much detail are you going to put into the swap? 4.3 swap is going to be weekends and weekends of detail chasing.

I've got an 89 V6 Raider. It's the fourth MMC 4X4 I've owned. It is miles better than the 2.6. Larger tank, more power, more reliable and better mileage. But then..., I'd have no interest in an engine swap project other than maybe a 4M40 in a SWB... hmmm.

I'm a licensed auto service technician (our equivelant to ASE master tech) I used to work for Mercedes Benz, specializing mostly in wiring and drivability issues, now I build diesel 4x4 pickups for mining. I'm not worried about the work involved, I'm just wondering if it is worth doing when I can get a turn key V6 raider for about the same money.

This is what I build at work.
