How level the tranny is in relation to the vehicle is irrelevant, assuming the position of the tranny isn't modified and the vehicle is not pitched fore or aft a la body lift or the like(if it is, make adjustments accordingly). The engineers designed it as a package and placed the fill hole where it needed to be. Make sure the ground you check it on is level. Clear as mud now, right? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

A degree or two or three either way (LT/RT-FR/BK) isn't going to make any difference. On my '97 t-case a couple degrees is only a few ounces +/- out of 4 quarts.

Again, on the newer tranny/t-cases (and I'm pretty sure this works the same on the older ones) - there is a front seal on the t-case input and a seal on the transmission shifter rail. Unless the seal is completely gone there's no way for fluid to migrate from the tranny to the t-case or visa versa.

<quote>this would start pushing oil out the front seal on the tranny</quote>

No. Unless you really over filled both the tranny and t-case. Guess if you tiped the truck on it's side.:-) The point of not over filling is that some transmissions and transfer cases are not vented. If you over fill when stuff expands pressure builds up and the pressure usually starts pushing fluid past the seals. There's quite a bit of dead air space on the Mitsu 5-speed transmission set up. On the 5-speed t-case there's a small, cheap seal around the transmission shift rail which I can guarentee will go long before the t-case main front seal.
