My radiator was flowing through 1 tube & overheating on me. I recalled how we used to clean out the heat exchangers on boats & tried it.
Rinsed everything out first, then filled the radiator with muriatic acid & let sit in the sun for 2 hours.
Rinsed real good, shook, rinsed again.
Reinstalled & filled radiator & will let you know how it worked tonight.

You may be a little thin on metal now. Muriatic is rough stuff in that long an exposure. Should eat the snot out of the deposits, though. I used to use lye...

It worked excellent. temp only came up 1/3 of the way. As for the Muriatic eating the copper away, we used to soak marine heatexchangers for a few days without damage.

I used to use Drano - drive for an hour or so, then flush with baking soda - then distilled water and anti-freeze.

I used to use lye... how much lye to water. draino is lye I think. I bought a used radiator and want to get the rust out, I think this is all aluminum. It is not imstalled. Lemon juice?

I know it was stupid, but... Also, when I flushed with soap got alot of copper flake sealer stuff, what looked like glue and paper, and other crap out. I think it might be clogged inside

I would not try the muriatic with aluminum. I do know it works well with copper & brass. Used to do marine heat exchangers alot that way.
