Hi I know some have converted the 22R to propane but has anyone converted the 3.0. Where I am, the cost of propane is about 63cents/litre - which is a lot less than gasoline.
What I'm wondering about is the role of the computer and timing in the V6. Could you unplug the computer. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thx

I was thinking the same thing and found this link. The kit looks fairly simple and it is priced reasonable as well, just no feedback or numbers from installs. http://poweredbypropane.net/index.html

My understanding is that a propane conversion usually results in less power - not a good thing with a 3.0.

You'll take a slight hit in power, may not be noticable.
I've been playing with the idea of dual-fueling. Not propane OR gas... But propane AND gas. Basically do a propane mixer setup to run intentionally lean and suppliment with gas - and tune the EFI for gas... Haven't seen anyone but diesels trying this setup.

Propane has less energy per unit of fuel, but it has an equivalent octane of 105, so it's very suitable for a high compression piston upgrade or turbo-charging. -- Matt

Propane: 91,690 btu/gallon Gasoline: 110,250 btu/gallon Diesel(#2 fuel oil): 142,800 btu/gallon These conversions numbers may help. They represenst the amount of energy each fuel type contains per gallon. Its easy to see why and by how much that diesel engines get better gas mileage than a similar gasoline type. The problem now is that diesel has become so expensive to refine for the emmissions requirements that its mpg upside does not pay to the additional $ at the pump. The propane energy component is lower than gas or diesel. Is it cheap enough to make it viable? Based on the energy content numbers i would expect to see mpg suffer as well as engine hp output. It may be a good option if its cheap enough to run. If anyone pulls this off PLEASE, keep us posted <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />
