From local parts store, I was sold an AC Delco reman alternator for a 85 cj7 6cyl 258. The part number is 334-2112 and is 63 amps. I researched part number and found that it is for a 80-82 cj. Part number 334-2114 is for the 85 cj7. It is also 63 amps. The 334-2112 Alternator I was sold is not putting out proper voltage. I checked all wires and cables. Could this wrong part be the problem.

I bought alternator at Parts Connection which deals mostly in AC Delco rebuilt or reman crap. I had it tested at Autozone today and it failed. Where can I buy quality parts for my jeep?

Why not go back to the zone and pick one up? I deal mostly with O'Riley's but I think all of them are bout the same. Big Jim

I bought a new brush kit for my origanal,....under $20 if i remeber correctly. Easy fix. If the bearings are out they are standard sizes like a 6205z.

I had a bad experience with Auto Zone about 12 years ago. Called up and asked for a part for an 86 Isuzu Pup. The guy put me on hold then came back and asked what year chevy I had. I told him Isuzu. Quoted me a price. I went over to pick up the parts, got home and guess what? They wouldn't fit. Took it back and did a part number search, came back to a ??? you guessed it Chevy PU. Been goin to O'riley's ever since.

Hey Lefty, most parts stores like AutoZone, Oreilly' s Advanced buy tons of rebuilt stuff that has pretty low quality control. It isnt uncommon to go thru several "new" ones til you get a good one. I bought a 100 amp alternator off ebay from a seller called "alterstart" They are in the biz of rebuilding high output alternators and starters. Altho I cant attest to the longevity of thier product, I can tell you it has kept my battery at peak thru some heavy "start-no fire" sessions with my project. You cant beat the price, $90 plus shipping for 100 amps. This guy does higher amp stuff too but they get pretty pricey. I bought the higher amp than stock to run my winch, lighting etc on my rig. Heres a link to the 100 amp one but check out the others he does too. Hope this helps ya! AlterStart
