I drove Big Bend in 2002 with my Dad for his 75th birthday. Back then, I was driving a '94 Range Rover. A black truck gets hot on the desert floor Leather interior doesn't help either. My inside temp sensor was reading 130 F, but I thought it was reading too high. Very cool place, my Dad thinks anyone's nuts to drive or camp out there after early June [Too hot] I loved the small pigs roaming around, Javalenas?[spelling] They knew to prowl the main campground for every sucker that would throw them food.
We stayed out of the desert floor campsites, and stuck to the much higher altitude one in the hills. Insects hang around at the lower ones if there's any water around[pretty buggy during mating season] I want to go back bad, but my Dad's 81 now and I'm not sure he's up for another round. Have fun in Big Bend.
