Getting the Wheeling Fever
After a lot of looking and reading - I am looking at adding an ECTED electric locker to the front of my 08 JK Dana 30. I don't want the expense of an air compressor (ARB) and have seen some questions about the OX mechanical system and Eaton does not make a locker for the Dana 30. Although the ECTED is actually and electrical clutch and not a mechanical lock, it seems to offer a good option between nothing, lunchbox or a mechanical/air operated locker. BTW, I like the TracLok on the rear right now and got very good comments on it from those following me at Moab on a bunch of obstacles, so no immediate plans to change that. Any thoughts?

ARB is simple and reliable. When you lock an ARB it is locked.

The ected is a sort of locked/locker, now, if a sort of locker is what you want, save some cash and buy a trutrac.

My main concern is that for a front locker I want something that is able to totally unlock when not needed and if it acts like a trac lock or lunchbox when activated, so be it. I do not want to use a lunchbox on the front axle during winter, etc...never knowing when it would lock up. With the ECTED, I know it is unlocked when the current is off.

Once again, ARB, there simply isn't any other locker that works as smooth and reliable. Some folks hate them...fine.
I'll still recomend them to even those folks.

Here is a factor for you.

If your ARB has any sort of warranty issue, ARB can sell replacment parts and guide you/shop through the repair.

If an OX or Eaton or Ected, needs repair, they all require you sending it in to their service dept, and however long a wait to get it back.

Seems simple to me.

Need a Spot
I run a Tru-trac in my "82" CJ7 and it works well with the Detroit Locker in the rear axle. Back in the "80s" when I installed the Detroit carriers front and rear there were no Electric or Air activated options so I went with the latest, greatest that was on the market at the time. Running with the stock T5 manual transmission has been a bit tricky at times when needing to tap the brakes to re-engauge the tru-track when climbing steep rutted out terrain. I am sure this task will be made easier once the 350 motor and tranny swap out is complete.

I really like the idea of a Dana 44 in the front - I have the towing package with 3.73 and also like it. So I would either have to swap out the front or rear ratio. Anyway, because of cost issues, for now I will stick with the LSD in the rear (which is much, much improved over previous versions) and the front/rear BLD setup which works great and is almost as good as a locker. Many thanks for info...
