my 2000 sport when running sounded like a bunch of keys shaking until the timing belt broke, after repair no belt squeek or valve noise at all.

I replaced my timing belt 20000 miles ago, so that isn't the problem.
I didn't replace the water pump or pulley when I did it though. I've noticed my radiator is very low on coolant quite often, so I'm wondering where my coolant is going.
I'm wondering if this coolant leak might have something to do with the sound because when I filled the radiator it quit. When it started again I checked and the coolant was real low again.
ItÆs not going into the oil because the oil is not foamy and also not leaking because there are no puddles inside or outside the car.

if you use a lot of coolant you might have a slight blown head gasket can you smell any coolant at you tail pipe ? I think you low coolant and ticking are 2 different things but the same to a point, as I said before you might have a blown head gasket a small one and your water pump is making the ticking sound because the bearing is going bad. the flow of coolant lubes the pump but the pump works harder when it's low. get a rubber tubing and hold 1 end to your ear and the other end hold in your hand hold it to the lower part of the T/B cover to see if you hear the ticking sound's there. try this in other areas also just make sure you don't get your hand or finger ripped off by the belts and other moving parts.

Good idea. I've already done this and isolated it to the valve train of the top of the engine.
This is why I'm thinking I need to adjust the valves.
Still trouble shooting this one though because I don't what to have to replace the heads. Big money unless I can find one in a salvage yard somewhere.
