My Sons truck is giving him a fit, and he is 120 miles from here. [By the way, anyone here in Kalispell?] It acts at times like it is flooded, yet it isnt. Sometimes it will start, other times it wont. It left him stranded last night but ran this morning. Trying to do what I can, from a distance. Re: '86 igniter symptoms? I had a similar problem a few years ago. Acted like it was flooded, would start and puff black smoke, sometimes ran fine, sometimes not at all. I have been this route before, I am 99% sure this is the issue. I am going to go the GM HEI route I am thinking.
