Unless someone finds a way to separate hydrogen from other molecules for almost no use of other power.. it will be useless..

I have the answer!!! Lets just pave the deserts in solar cells, then we can generate all the electricity we need to turn water into Hydrogen.

A lot of the rest of the world is using Nuclear, we should be too. We have the understanding and controls in place to use it safely now, but we havenÆt built a new Nuclear Reactor for power generation in over 30 years, because of all of the ******* ********, (nope not going to doing it, not going to start a political pissing match). France runs on Nuclear, no wonder they didn't want to go to war with the middle east.......

If America's first exposure to electricy had been the electric chair, we would still be in the dark.

The reason people assume that nuclear is dangerous is due to a couple of cities in Japan.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Being an engineer (retired)I fully understand and agree with the net energy loss of the systems proposed. What about a friend of mine who installed one and is running it with a roof top full of solar cells to power the unit? Seems he might make some gain? Just wondering

Since we were talking about those ssytems for use in vehicles, I'm wondering if all those solar cells would fit on top of a Jeep (and still get under the trees when going offroad)?

Don't know how much energy it takes to separate the hydrogen, but Iwould think you'd need a battery array to power it when the solar cells can't (like under the trees). If solar cells are 20% shaded they loose about 60% of their productivity. Don't exactly understand it, but I think it's sorta like having a dead battery in with some good ones. It just doesn't work right.

I was trying to make a joke, but either I failed, or someone has no sense of humor. I was imagining a whole roof-full of solar panels mounted on the top of my Jeep!

Well guys...so far a machine hasn't been invented that will produce MORE power of a type other than it uses itself..
So using solar or wind or tidal waves to make another type of energy would be in effect "free".. Because the energy taken wasn't purchased nor used up thus deleting THAT energy from farther use..
Hydrogen just ain't gonna cut it for vehicle use.. Everything so far is pointing to lectric as our future power source.
Hydrogen and alcohol are simply ploys to get our tax money from us! It is absurd that our food prices are going up at the same time that hydrogen is taking more fuel to make than it is replacing.

I think his major complaint (roof top solar cells ) is bird *****...must have a detrimental effect on power production. That and he can't take his top off!!!!

Here's a question:

Is there an over abundance of power available that ultimately goes to waste as unused because you're always turning the alt anyways? Therefore you are using some already wasted energy?
