I find it hard to imagine that the FSM would list every capacity but fuel, but after 3 lookies in a row, I don't see it. Does my 88, stock, 4x4 truck have a 17 gallon fuel tank? (As much fun as it sounds, I don't want to drive it till it's empty and then fill it up to find out).

Owner's Manual has that information. Typically 14 or 17 gallons in the SWB trucks:

Usually can tell by comparing the depth of the tank (i.e. how far it hangs down from the frame).

I haven't yet spent the money to get an owner's manual, but it's on the to-do list (parts first, paper second). Stopped on the way home and filled up for only the second time since I bought it and I wasn't paying any attention the first time. I simply wanted it to make it home from where I bought it (150 miles away). It was close to empty, showing about an 1/8 of a tank or so. It only took 12 gallons, so I am guessing I have the 14 gallon version. Thanks for the info. It was darn nice paying under $50 to fill up. The last tank full on the F-150 was almost $90. That bad boy is sitting on the dealer's lot collecting dust where it belongs.

Yeah, lucky you. I've got the somewhat rare 19.2 gallon tank. 17.2 gallons to fill from the low fuel light being on.

Yes, the LWB models have the 19 gallon tank (tank is longer).

With my 3" body lift, there is room for a lot more tank. However, my wallet did not receive any sort of modification, except to grow thinner paying for parts to make this thing my DD. For that reason, I'll just keep the small tank until I figure out how to make the truck run on cow crap.

ditch it and run propane....at $2.00 it will pay for itself,it burns cleaner and your oil will last longer. the best part is you can ditch the gas pumps and stick it to the man.
