Does anyone know of a source for a jig for drilling a 3.4 block to move the starter to the left side?

Buy a Trooper. You'll be glad you did.

I remember that there is such a jig. I've seen it online. I had the source bookmarked at one time, but I've lost all my bookmarks at least twice, so I no longer have it.

EdMc should be able to tell you about availability of this jig.

My friend and I did mine without a jig. It really wasn't very difficult. With the engine on a stand, we clamped the starter in place, made sure the drill was level and then just drilled the holes. When thats done, remove the starter, tap them and bang, thats it.

Thanks. I was hoping to save a few dollars and buy a used one, if one were available. I only have one block to drill so far. I guess I could invest in a new jig and offer it to the next needy Trooper owner once it's served me.

I / we made a paper tracing off the 2.8 block. Center punched with a punch, triple checked the measurements. Drilled & tapped came out perfect

Hey Craig, how's things?

When I did mine, I did the same as Storm Trooper. I remember hemming and hawwing about it for a few days first... Like Nike says, Just Do It. It's not a rocket, just a starter, don't get too worried about it. Check and double check and triple check, and it wouldn't help to have a spotter with a good eye to watch you keep the drill level and straight, but otherwise, not bad at all... I call it "Scaredy Cat Syndrome" -- where you're so scared you're gonna mess it up that you just keep putting it off. Then you do it, and you go, "Oh man, that was stupid, I could have done that weeks ago..." Just be sure of you're measurements and you'll be fine.

Thanks, Chris. Sean Michael left me his jig before he left for Logan. That should make the job simple enough that I can do it. Keeping the bit perpendicular is much easier with a guide.
