PO had managed to totally screw up everything related to the original horn. I'm trying to get it back to stock. Steering wheel and contacts are now good. What I cannot find is where the original wires for the horn come out of a loom and connect to the horn itself behind the grill. Nothing appears to be cut or missing, but hard to tell. Everything in the junkyard is trashed. When the wire(s) leave the fusebox, do they go into the main loom under the hood? 88 P/U, 4WD, 22RE, 5-speed. Any ideas? Pics? Suggestions?

Not sure where they leave the loom, but mine come out under the passenger side headlight opening and up to the horn. I would assume they leave some place under the fuse box on that side. Since my air filter box has been moved to that side, I can't really see under it.

My take of this is; the G/R wire goes from the steering wheel horn button, down the steering column, into the dash harness. From there it goes under the dash and out the passenger side kick panel area and along the underside of the fender, then comes up under the fuse block and then goes to the horn. The B/Y wire returns from the horn and back to the fuse block on the inner passenger side fender, to the horn fuse. (but you might already know this)

If you need some pics I can take some, but there isn't much to see...

Okiedokie. I appreciate the info. I removed the battery this morning, after following the clues, and lo and behold, there it was. The PO had pulled the horn wires back out of the grill area, taped them up against the fender main harness where it passes the battery. It was actually partially under the battery tray gettin' squished. A lot of work to hide a couple of wires! As soon as I saw the green/red stripe wire, I knew I was gonna have a good day after all. I will hook them up tonight when it is slightly less than the 100 degrees it is now. Thanks again!

I'm usually up by 4:00, but momma and the neighbors both b&(ch when I fire up the garage sound system (1000 Watts!), compressor, and start hammerin' that early.

When my neighbour wakes me up early on weekends (aka before 9 am) somehow my stereo gets cranked when he's trying to sleep that night (he understands) next day, no noise till 10 am, and no loud music from my side

I am an early riser, 7 days a week. No alarm clock needed. Thanks to my Drill Instructor Dad.

Did you have to replace the contacts or did you just clean them up a bit?

The steering wheel that was on the truck when I bought it was not the right one and had no contacts. The PO had drilled a hole in the dash and mounted a push button and run wires straight out to the battery.

I went to the junkyard and got a steering wheel that had the contact ring and center piece off of a 4runner and put that on the truck. Note that I took the contact ring off and cleaned it thoroughly and used a steel wire brush to make it shiny. It was corroding, but cleaned up very nicely. The contact pin in the column (original) looked good, so I just wiped it with alcohol/q-tip and filed the end gently till it was shiny. The left-over alcohol was saved for future medicinal purposes.
