Anybody know where I can find a good pic of the parts from the top of a steering column? I got a tilt column out of a junker and have successfully rebuilt most of it but I dont know exactly what I am missing on top. There is a white part that has a spring loaded pin it it which I assume is for horn continuity. There is also a plate that has the look of a fan sorta. Anyway, when I put the parts together, the pin catches on the steering wheel and locks it up. I need to know what I am missing so I can use the column. Anybody out there have a column that is pulled apart who can send a pic? The factory service manual's pic is crap, and I cant tell anything from it. I may have to go to a U-Pull-It yard and take a GM tilt apart if no one can help out. I may have to anyway to get the missing parts. Thanks! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

Try a Haynes CJ manual for a good picture.

BTW, the "fan" looking plate is called a lockplate.

The white thing with the spring loaded button for the horn is called a cancellation ring. That white thing also operates against the turn signal detents to cancel the turn signal after the steering wheel has been turned a certain amount.

When you install the cancellation ring, it must be installed such that it can turn. If you look at the lockplate, it will be obvious where the horn button must stick up through.

BTW, you can get new cancellation rings from OMIX-Ada, but they will be empty. That is, they will have the copper ring on the bottom, but the metal button, the button keeper, and the button spring will not be included. I haven't been able to locate a seller of those small parts, and I have had to fabricate my own. The spring and button are easy to make -- it's the button keeper that is a PITA.

The Haynes manual I have does not really have a good pic of it. When I had to do work on my column, a buddy of mine gave me a link to a site that had step by step instructions with LOTS of pics. I will talk to him and see if he stills knows what the website is.

Thanks, Brown, that'll be a big help. I am suprised the Jeep FSM's pic is so crappy and I hate to go to a U Pull It and tear apart a column just to look. If they catch me I will be buying it probly, lol. There isnt much around my house so I will wait til I get back to FL.
