Just wondering - if the engine turned over but did not fire - why mess with the starter solenoid? I would check and make sure you are getting spark first. If the engine turns over and does not start it is one of three - spark, fuel and air. I would check spark - ignition system first (distributor, coil, wiring, etc.) since you were playing with the timing.
