The shift levers point up. In other words the rods that connect the linkage to the levers are below the bolts that stick out of the tranny. I didn't think that was a normal shift pattern but then I was born in the 50's - not driving.
Superdawg is right though - this gearing is way to high. First gear in low range even is not near low enough for bush wackin. What's the best way to lower these gears? The Hurst shifter is a "Super Shifter."
