Need a Spot
Hi, I have a 98 Cherokee Sport 4.0 that is stock. I changed the shocks less than a year ago. I installed the Monroe Sensa-trac front and rear. lately the suspension has become "stiff and jumpy" when you go over the concrete unions on the road or any uneven condition. This vehicle is used by my wife to take the kids to school and get the groceries so it has not been off roading. Do I need to replace the shocks again or do something to the rear leafs? Thanks.

Sounds like shocks. You might try Rancho adjustable shocks.

How muxh air are you running in the tires... THEY are your first shock absorber.. You shouldn't feel the dividers in the road due to the tires themselves..

Tires are 235/75/15 and have allways kept them around 32 lbs. Haven't changed anything on the vehicle since I changed the shocks.

In my ENTIRE life I haven't heard of shocks getting HARDER till your post. Could it be that you don't ride in her vehicle much and so you are NEW to the ride of those shocks? Traditionally shocks get weaker..but not harder as they grow older. MODERN shocks last 150K most times. My wifes had 160K on them when we traded the ride off and they were stock shocks. They might have been a bit softer than new but little if any at all.

I never heard it either, that's why I thought I ask you guys. We have had it for 2 years and I drive it on weekends when the whole family goes out and it just started feeling different. It doesn't wobble like when the shocks are worn. I guess we'll just have to get use to it. Thanks.

Might the neoprene eyeholes be going south? They shouldn't be yet, but worth a look. Or could a shock have been damaged somehow so that it's binding up?

The polyurethane upper shock bushings in my Cherokee settled 1/8" or so after a few thousand miles. Might be worth cranking the top caps down nice and tight and checking the bottom bushings for play.

Doubt thier blown if you've just be driving on pavement. Even my $25 Skycrackers lasted 2 years off roading.

It's pretty easy to damage one of the rear shocks backing into stuff off road. The other is in front of the axle so hard to hit. Again, if your on pavement I doubt you've bent a shock.
Could be one or more worn steering components are making your ride rougher than usual.
Might try shaking the front tires while thy're off the ground to see if they rattle or have any play.
Loose track bar, pitman arm, ball joints, wheelbearings, steering stabilizer, can all cause rough handling or even the dreaded Jeep Death Wobble

Been there, super sucks to hit a pothole and start fishtailing wildly at 45MPH in thick traffic.

My '00 WJ has just 65k on it, most of it on pavement and all of the shocks are gone bad, and to my knowledge they came with monroe's from factory. I you decide to swap out again then try KYB, they are in a whole different league than Monroe.
