Try the fuel pump test jumper for starters:

BTW, Roger: This trick did fix my starting problem as well on my 88 22RE. But since the AFM and Circuit Open Relay passed all the listed tests, does that mean the fuel pump itself may be failing? Is it possible for the open circuit relay to pass the test, but still be faulty, as you suggested in your article? Just curious. And not intentionally hijacking the thread.

I also wanted to ask what others were using for jumpers on the diagnostic connector on the PS fender. I tried several different size wires and they either kept coming loose or just wouldn't make a good connection. A trip to Radio Shack proved useless. I found a box of electrical jumpers, like for a circuit board. Twisting the ends of 3 of these together seemed to be just about the right size to fit tightly and make a good connection, but it sure looks hokey.
