The washer should be a belleville type, with a slight dome which goes toward the bolt head. This puts a "spring" tension on the pulley at proper torque.

for the record and future searches the bolt has changed again it is the one on the right in the pic below. ( Thanks Frank ) measuring tape is an iso with mm and cm. ![[Linked Image]](http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/7208/crankbolt.jpg)

I got one of those from hazy daze awhile back to put on my blue 91.
I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

wait, what about the updated bolt that was as long as the factory original just skinnier, were those somehow causing failure as well? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

No. The latest design is just an update. If you have yours off, replace it with the updated one.
Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

The one I replaced mine look similar to the shorter looking ones- Except you could put a 1/2 ext inside the hex head.

The bolt for the 3.0 12 valve has a shorter unthreaded area than the 3.0 24 and 3.5 i.e the HB is thicker in the 3.0 24 and 3.5 .
