Hey everyone, I'm having an issue with the fuel tank on my 89 lwb monty. It pressures up when the truck is off and its warm to hot out. Seems to do it worse the less fuel thats in the tank. It pressures up enough that it leaks from somewhere (i think the drain plug but cant tell for sure) Any ideas on what the problem maybe is and solutions is much appreciated.

Btw I tried a new fuel cap already with no difference

Thanks in advance
Eric

Oops its a v6 aswell.

It's supposed to do that. Fix the leak.

I deffinatly plan to fix it. It just seems to build up an awfull lot of presure. Enough that its hard to get the cap off. If thats right thats great news and i'm paranoid for nothing. It just seems like to much is building up. I doesn't leak if there is no pressure either.

Also whats a good way to go about fixing the leak? I know of the putty but does it work? Is that viable method?

Thanks again

I tried the putty, but it would simply start in another place. Back on the east coast there was a process called "gas tank renu", and that's what I did for BII's rusty tank. Not sure if we have such a thing out here? What they did was coat the tank in a resin, and then bake it. Tank came out looking like new. And no more leaks.

Praps you could shoehorn a genII tank in there while you're converting other goodies...

In terms of pressure, what does the tank do when you're filling it up - does it spit fuel at you at the last second before the gas pump kicks out? Just wondering if you have a kinked vent line? Never been any vapor lock, has there? Don't recall...

I'm thinking it may be fuel cell time. With the cooler weather yesterday there were no problems at all. Just like a normal truck. Filled it up, cap came off fine. With a full tank there was no smell of gas or anything. Fuel cell it fixes all kinds of problems. Like clearance and a life without a battered tank
