Need a Spot
Ordered a set of these today (Rock Sliders - 67" 84-88 Xtra-Cab, $140, pair, 120002-1-K) based on the information here on this thread.

Anyone know of a good place to get these put on in SoCal? I checked with T&J Performance near me in Orange and though they can do it, it will cost me somewhere in the range of $150 to $200 based on their 1.5 to 2 hrs estimate at $105/hr. Is that reasonable?

I'm hoping to get these on before my trip to Tahoe in August.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Let us know how it goes. I have been eyeballing those as well for my '98, but I am leaning toward installing a body lift first so I don't have to move them.

get the body lift first.I wish I could have waited but I had
plans to wheel before I could do the body lift and now have to move the sliders

The were delivered today. One day delivery isn't bad <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I'll try and get them on tomorrow or Friday. I'll follow up with pics too.

2-3 days max is normal. They're only in Fresno.

Can't wait to see how they look. If you'll be doing the harder sierra trails, I'm interested to see how well they do.

Holy ****! The estimate changed to $500 to put them on and paint them. I really wasn't expecting that.

Paint them yourself after they install them. Use a rattle-can.

I don't know how much it will knock off, but I'll at least inquire.

I knew I should have learned to weld!

So when I went to Gold Mountain in Big Bear on the 4th of July - this is what I did to the stock side-steps. You can see in this first pic that the rear end-cap of the side-step is missing and so is the rear mud flap.
[Linked Image]

Here's a better pic of the missing end-cap
[Linked Image]

Here's a better pic of the missing mud flap and damage taken at the second to last obstacle. Notice the molding pieces no longer lines up.
[Linked Image]

Here you can see how bent the side-step brackets are and a lot of fresh scrapes on the step itself
[Linked Image]

Here's a close-up of the passenger's side that took a pretty big hit
[Linked Image]

So I *chilled* and took the rest of the mud flaps off. You can see here on the passenger's side just how far back the side-steps got pushed. There's about 1/16" between the tire and the side-step end-cap.

So that set the stage for some new rock sliders. As mentioned in the original post, these were purchased from Trail Gear. This is what they looked like out of the box. They came with 3 legs per side.
[Linked Image]

I had them put on at T&J Performance in Orange. Here's a before...
[Linked Image]

...and an afters with some close-ups and different angles. They added two extra legs per side for a total of 5 per side welded to the frame. I left it to them as far as placement and angle. They're pretty much completely flat which isn't problem as far as I know but it wasn't expected. They do still nicely serve as a step for my wife and kids to get in and out so that's a plus.

Total damage was $675 for everything. A bit more than I was anticipating.

Opions?
