Nigel's right. A lot also has to do with how and where you're driving it. My regular drive is an hour on the highway, full warm-up, no starting and stopping, no quick starts/shutdowns, and a few minutes of slow speed at the end, followed by a minute or two of idle. This is 10 months of the year. I push my interval to 8500kms, fresh filter every time, synthetic Rotella.
