tbelt broke today on 2000 sportage. i have found instructions on replacement of tbelt and water pump.
my question is how to make sure the crank is on tdc or 180 off ? maybe pull #1 spark plug to see if piston is at top.
any input would be appreciated.

just put the crank to match up with notch and the E to line up and then the I to line up. the hard part is getting the E and I to stay put, a helper can hold them with a socket. remember only turn it the rotation direction the kiatechinfo show how this goes. it does not tell you all the stuff you have to remove to get to it. 2 helpers would be a lot better, I don't know how many miles are on yours so check the tensioners , John

If your check engine light is on at least you know the light still works

136000.00 ....

...miles?...is this is the first replacement, it softens the statistics, as 1/2 of that is what is generally recommended and experienced by many..and mine has just reached 70,000 miles......
