I really hope you guys can help me with this problem. As far as automotive issues go, it isn't huge (the truck still stops, starts, steers, etc.), but it is annoying.
My Rodeo came from the factory with a keyless entry/theft deterrent system. Until recently, the alarm and keyless entry have worked beautifully for as long as I've had the vehicle (three years this month).
On the night of July 10th the truck was parked in the driveway and had been there for several hours. Late in the evening, the alarm went off. I hurried out to shut it off so as not to bother the neighbors. A few minutes later, it did it again. Because it was late and I didn't want it to keep happening, I disconnected the battery.
The truck sat there for ten days while I was on vacation.
When I got back on the 21st, I changed the batteries in the keyless remote, re-connected the battery, and tried it out. Everything seemed to work fine. However, the alarm went off again later that same evening. I went out and disconnected the battery, then went back to bed.
I reconnected everything the next morning, fiddled with the system, discovered everything to be working ok and decided to leave it alone. That was Tuesday.
It worked fine until this afternoon, when the alarm went off again. I yanked the fuse for the alarm, left it out for a few minutes, put it back in, and everything seemed to work fine.
On my way to my in-laws' house, I noticed that the dome light was on, as were the small lamps in the doors. Going over a bump caused them to flicker, but they would not turn off (I noticed this on a few of the other occasions, too, but I thought they came on when the alarm activated itself. They wouldn't turn off then, either.)
Here's where it gets really weird...
After leaving the in-laws' house, I drove several miles to meet a friend at his house for dinner. When I arrived at his house and got out of the truck, none of the lights would turn off and the remote would not lock the truck. Upon leaving his house, I realized that all of the lights would turn off while I was making a left turn, but would immediately come back on again when the truck straightened out. Right turns had no effect and bumps still made the lights flicker.
I'm guessing that this is an issue with the pressure switches that detect whether the doors are closed or not and the problem is with the left/driver's side doors.
I borrowed a multimeter so that I can test the switches, but I've never used one before, so this should be interesting.
Am I on the right track? Is there something I haven't thought of?
Sorry for the long post...
