Here's the bike I'm in the final purchase stage of:

I've wanted one since 2001 and this happens to be the perfect color and condition with a decent price. It is a 2001 Suzuki TL1000S (v-twin sport bike and predecessor to the SV1000/VSTROM of today) and has 11,000 miles on the ticker. The only non-original pieces are the clutch (replaced at 8,000 miles) and tires with ~1000 miles on them.

Anyway, to the question as it's the clutch that bothered me since it was replaced so soon. The owner burned it up trying to do a burn-out video. He wanted to smoke the rear tire and then emerge from the smoke. The result was a clutch replacement. What else should I worry about with this burnout? I can't imagine anything else that could've gone wrong, but thought I'd ask. The brakes could use replacing in the somewhat near future (so he says), but everything else is good (so he says).

If there's anyone in the So-Cal area that is going to be in the vacinity of Buena Park and wouldn't mind stopping in to take a look at it for me before I have an old Navy friend take delivery of it and hold it in San Diego until February, please let me know and I'll put you in touch with the owner.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and assistance!

That's a lot of bike <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" /> If your paying real money send it over to Suzuki dealer and have them check it our for $100. At the same time get a quote on the clutch. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

When you say grad school do you mean NPS ? If so buy insulated leathers our average temp is 65 and most mornings it's 40-50 degrees. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Hell yeah, I'm talking NPS. I'm looking forward to riding up there! We need to get out when I get there, Les!

WRT the clutch, it's already been replaced. I'd have to have it taken to a shop independent from the one that did the service on the clutch as he says they told him it's the best specimen of the bike they've ever seen. Hard to get an unbiased opinion there...

Thanks.

I'll need every bit of that Liter to haul my fat @$$ around. Anything smaller and I won't be comfortable. I don't go fast, though, too chicken...Just want to be able to get out on the road and up to speed without getting killed...

<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> I dont think that will be an issue.

I hear you about comfort, especially on long highway rides. That thing is really nice bro. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I've always thought so, too. A friend (actually my boss) had one while I was stationed in HI and I fell in love with the bike. BADA$$ED V-twin torque and a comfortable sporty ride with a quarter fairing look. Never really like the full fairing bikes (although the new GSX-R 1000 and R1 are growing on me).

I'll fab some hard bag mounts for the sides and add a top case with a back pad for the kid. I want to take him on a road trip up into OR with a tent and some minimal primative camping gear. We'll stop at various campgrounds along the way and have a blast!

Anyway, still need that bit of mechanical advice so I can take the plunge! Thanks for the input and keep it coming.

Oh yeah, Chris, we'll have to meet up as well. Can't wait to see Joann, Carlos, Russ and Ray again either!

Ummm, yeah, I was trying to be modest and didn't want to be "that guy"... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" />

Thanks, a$$hat... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I'm well aware what it WILL do, AND what I'll do on it. Did I mention that I LOVE this bike? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
