I'm trying to get the CV shaft out to change the boots ('88 4x4 p.u.) but just can't get it to drop through the lower control arm. My local certified Toyota mechanic told me that at the dealer they drop the lower control arm. Sounds right to me but after disconnecting everything, including loosening the control arm bolts, sway bar bushing, and ball joint connections, it won't drop for anything! I've smacked it with a 4# hammer and broken a screw-in puller arm trying to push the ball joint shaft through. Is this thing just rusted fast or have I missed something? Any ideas on how to get the control arm to drop? Thanks!!
