I've been thinking of getting an other jeep for a project, and i think i may have found it. But i am just courus what you guys think. Its a jeep Islander edition so it's a late 80's early 90's. It has 6cyl. standard, looks like a 3 inch lift with 33's. But the guy doesnt know if it runs, doesnt have the keys. but he was told it had some electrical issue but doesnt know what it is cause of the no key. I gave it a once over and its missing, front drive shaft, tie rod, steering stabilzer and bar. And the front of the frame is rotted out. right behind the front bumper. the body has some rust but its not to bad. I should go back and check the fluids and the milage, dont know why i didnt the first time. The guy is asking $900 or b/o. I'm thinking of offering $100. Think the jeep is worth saving?

Sounds like a real project...don't it? I think I would start a project with a little better foundation. Seems to me that ride will have to have lots of possible repair before even starting on a upgrade project.. Even if you can get all the parts and get it back together it won't be worth much over 1500 bucks.. I think I would look for a project that hasn't spent 27 years in the rust country. The frame damage is the killer here, especially on the steering end of it. Electrical problems can be eliminated one at a time or with a new Painless wiring kit. Body issues are usually solve easily and if its a beater, it wont matter anyway. The other missing parts wont be a problem to replace either. If money is the issue, Jim is absolutely right, find a better choice to build on. It does however sound like a good parts jeep to rob from in building another. My project started from one worse than yours and I bought 3 others to get what I needed plus ALOT of new stuff from suppliers and off eBay. I have invested WAY to much money but the end result is I will have a basically new jeep for less than I coulda bought a brand new one for and I never made a monthly note. I have been working on mine for over 3 years when I have time so if your in a hurry, forget this one. Buy it for $100 and keep it for a parts vehicle for another one you get that's in better shape.
1977 CJ-7, fiberglass body, AMC 360 w/ headers, DUI ignition, Edelbrock intake and Holley 4150 carb, TF999, Dana 300, 4.56 gears lockers, York air comp, 4" susp lift, 2" body lift, BFG 35" M-T tires, Megashifter, AGR pump & box, REP8000 winch.

Anyone know if if the Islander edition is like the Sahara or Rubi? If so, there is Dana 44's under that thing that I might want to purchase. I do not want to steal the thread, but Dana 44's are half ton axles right?

Late 80's to early 90's Wranglers or CJs did not come with 44's....EXCEPT the 86 CJ's, and that was only in the rear. This page might help..... Jeep axles

ya it would be a real project but i'm in no hurry. Something i could do over the winter. But the frame being rotted out in the front is what is holding me back. if i were to use it as a part jeep would it would be compatible with what years is it 87 to like 95 or something...

That's generally right, '91 first year fuely (throttle body), thereafter the full works. That's the only change I can think of from '87-'95. Sounds like a parts vehicle to me too. But I'd be looking to start with a '97 TJ platform or something more unique like an old Waggy or Scrambler. A YJ for a build up platform just doesn't seem to cut it now that TJ's are over 10 yrs old and pretty inexpensive.

lol frame rot is not a good way to start a project unless you are or have life trusting faith in a fabricator somewhere. tell you what i am selling a 93 xj with 16" ARE's & a 4.6 stroker with 5500 on it. $1800 frame is good. hehehehehehe.
