What's good fellow Yotas - After some time now, about a year, of being without my lil 88 yota I've come to a conclusion. One, Anything but Toyota sucks. Two, Audi is the worst vehicle ever constructed. Third and most important - I want to come back to this community. I sold my 88 Yota 4x4 for a 2000 Audi TT - Biggest mistake ever. I hate the car, I hope it blows up, over priced shiny pos.
Anywho - I'm upset I can't find my truck anywhere in the area. I was going to just buy it back but it looks as if my love has skipped town. So, Now im looking for either a Pickup or a Taco really badly. I found an 87 Yota 22RE 4x4 5spd for $1000 not too far from my house. The bed looks like it has been eating salting however. No big though since I found a great metal fabber close by. This time going to do it right and have my mechanic take the truck and test Everything in it.
I can't 100% Remember what to look for in these trucks for faults. I remember the frame has to be stabbed to make sure it's not rotted through - and the steering w/ it's faulty component. 22re wasnt a fail safe motor either right? I vaguely remember that being said to me to be First priorty.

Anywho - spose ill scout the For sale area now and see if anythings out there

Welcome back. I have an 88 4x4 as well. Only fault I have encountered is the drivers wallet does not contain enough padding to smooth out the rough ride.

Aye my 88 was the same - Then I bought some SCAT racing seats to put in it and the damn brackets they fabbed up didnt fit for *****. So back they went lol. Looking around locally atm and found an 02 Taco for 9.5 - think I may go that route. Really liked my old, Sensorless, yota though

Roll Me Over
A good quality shock, and a little extra weight will smooth the ride out for you.

The 22r when taken care of (ave. care/using oem thermostat) is basically as bullet proof of an engine you are going to get.

Rust is only an issue when you live outside the West Coast and South West .

Steering components that usually are ignored are the idler arm and ball joints(about $200 for the DIY), but give you live in the Rust Belt, you will likely need to replace everything from the pitman through the idler as well as upper/lower ball joints.

One trick for listening to the transmission w/o road noise, is to put the t-case in neutral, then you can rev the engine and shift through the gears, just as if you were driving it, so you should be able to hear any problems with the transmission.

If the truck is solid(other than the bed) and the rest is relatively clean, $1000 isn't all that bad. If you have to replace the steering components, it shouldn't run you much more than about $400, and it is all work that can be done by you w/basic hand tools, i.e, wrench/socket set, torque wrench, pickle fork, and a hammer.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.

Aye I will agree that my old 22re was a BEAST. I beat the hell out of that motor...11,000 rpm w/ no bent valves, messed up the pressure plate, mud it Hard, pushed it to limits I never even imagined. It took it with stride.
I went to Rochester yesterday and looked at a 97 Taco 2.4 4x4...Dude was such a damn scam...Had 210,000 Miles on it, didnt run right - ugh....AND - wanted $9,000 for it...Soo - I really want a taco now. And am having no luck around here in this area. Sigh -_-

Body Damage is Cool
There's a recall on the stock steering. take the VIN to the dealer to see if you qualify for the recall.
Welcome back. I've slowed down a bit here myself.

Ahh I gave it some thought and after More hardcore searching for a decent/Fair priced toyota - I finally just traded in the TT for an 08 Nissan Frontier V6 4x4 - The new tacomas/tundras are sooo crazy expensive it made my heart stop lol. Which sucks since I really wanted one but not at those prices...This Nissan seems to be a very good runner up though - guess time shall tell
