Getting the Wheeling Fever

I need a new engine for my 1990 3.0L v6 montero and saw an ad for a JDM 4m40 pajero turbo diesel with 5 spd transfer case etc. or one with an auto and transfer case and I'm thinking about the conversion... Has anyone done this? Has the 4m40 got a good reputation? Does the 4m40 require an ecu or does it have mechanical injection? Is the auto trans
computer controlled ? Any thoughts or insights would help helpful.
