I've had 3 of the 2.6L SWBs - all about 17MPG on the open road. I get 17-18 around town and 19 open road with the 3.0L

89 3L V6 5spd SWB, Aisin Manual Hubs, 2 (suspension) seater Raider in Wheeler, OR
