The real theory behind a cone filter is more air flow. Plus i think in theory, the less plastic the air has to flow through, the cooler it would be, maybe not. But i would think the air would stay cooler just using the metal parts of the intake. And of course moving faster. Plus at slow speeds, the plastic between the hood and intake should be close to engine bay temp.
