I drilled the top distal end and implanted the temp sensor there.

That is the "why" mate... the ECU has correct info....

I have used both the drop in K&N filter and the cone filter on my Sportage. The drop in works fine, but the cone filter is the way to go.

I took the top off the stock box and left the rest. Then drilled a hole in the rubber end of my cone filter next to where it mounts and installed the temp sensor there. It pushes right in if you use the right sizeed drill bit. I love it.

I have had it throw a couple of CEL codes, but that was because I used to much oil. I have not had problems sucking in "HOT" air, but the way Iron did it would be better because it would be more like a cold air intake.

The Fuel filter is located on the bottom of the intake (in a tight little spot). Passenger side. Make sure that you engine is cooled down first. I burned my arm! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

On my sport its kinda down on a frame rail near the rear... and my filter wasnt no $10 bucks, i think it was $35. Stupid SOHC sportages... That reminds me. Guess I should put it in...

Now look what you guys made me do!

All this talk about Cone filters made me go out and drop one on the jeep!

[Linked Image]

Not as much fun as making one from scratch like on the sporty, but it claims to give 9hp.

Regardles of what you drive the biggest difference is the amount of air the filter or intake sucks in, this goes for ANY stock or cone filter set up, The filter is not the limiting factor. The smallest opening or passageway the air must travel thru is more of a deciding factor than type of filter used.

Example on the jeep the stock box was limited to the amount of air the engine could suck thru the stock air box opening, which was the smallest opening at 8 square inches. The intake I have now the smallest opening is 14 square inches and that is at the throttle body, the filter actually has 160 square inches of filter going into a 16 square inch opening. Twice that of the stock filter set up. But only a 75% increase in possible air flow, as the limiting factor is now the throttle body which is now the smallest opening.

So sticking a cone filter on the end of a sporty intake all you are doing is removing the limiting factor of the factory air box which if I remember right was a mere 5 square inches at the intake above the rad. but you still have the limiting factor of the next smallest opening which I belive is the Mass air flow sensor and thats only a 6" opening so your increase in air flow is only about 20%.
