Hey guys! I'm Jay from Acworth, GA (NW of Atlanta by about 25 miles.) My Montero is the dd and it just keeps kicking. 208k and has its issues but hasnt stranded me yet, knock on wood. Of course my valve stem seals are toast and it smokes like a chimney but its still blast! I had a 400 hp 1991 Galant VR-4 for 3 years before my 911 and that car made me become a mechanic but also addicted me to Mitsus.
I have had the surging power issue where its not just at idle but while you're driving the revs/ lights pulse even when crusing. I made a giant ground strap and cleaned my IAC, MAF and also capped the vent in the intake to stop any new oil from entering in there. Before the idle would periodically drop to around 500 rpm and after the cleaning its back around 750. Hopefully that fixes it or I can assume its the ecu. So far so good this afternoon but any extra suggestions would be great. I'll post back in this thread if I run into anything else.
Looking forward to the help and I already picked up a ton of tips from the board already from searching.

Welcome to the Wire!
Though I have only been on about 3.5 years, I visit everyday to see what is up. I've also used recent posts for the V6 Montys in my yard.

What year is your rig? Add the details to you signature via My Home. A bad IAC can cause surging. Easy to check it. Need an FSM for the specs and which of the "coil" terminals on the IAC need to be metered to test. Try the link in my sig for an FSM for yours.
400HP Galant VR-4? Sounds very cool. How'd you do that- turbo I'd guess? What motor, was it the 2.4?

Just did some Googling. I am seeing that it was the same 2.0 turbo as the Eclipse. I drove a Galant VR4 (or at least, it was AWD) sometime back then and do not remember it with a turbo.
I have a new jod that includes commuting again. The Big Truck is sometimes less that desirable for that. I may have to look into this Galant thing.

Yeah the Galant VR-4 was Mitsu's factory rally car before the Lancer Evo that they brought here to the US in 91-92. Only 3000 in total. 4g63 turbo 2.0 intercooled, awd, 4 wheel steering. Fun cars for sure. If you drove an AWD Galant that wasn't turbo that is the Galant GSX. Only 1500 of those were brought in. 2.0 non turbo but still awd with no other goodies. I thought I included my sig in my post, I'll make sure it stays there. Montero is an 89 v6 auto LWB that I have had about a year.

crankwalk Welcome to the forum, your signature says your Porsche is a turbo 13b? watch for stupid question next: you got a rotary 13b in it? or is it the turbo inut that is a 13b?
In addition to my adction to Mitsubishi I am also addicted big time to rotary engines.
So bad that I even considered a rotary for my Monty Javy

I recently picked up a 1991 Galant VR-4. I traded my old turbo mirage for it. all I have to do it put an engine in it. I am hoping for about 350HP at the wheels. EVO III 16G, 660's, DSM LINK

Nope. Only 1g AWD's and of course my gvr4. Also for the guy who asked, my 911 has a turbo RX7 motor swapped in the back, not just the turbo off of it. I have a question for you guys. I need a transistor unit and coil for the 3.0 6cyl. The thing that is above the distributor cap on this picture: Where is the best place to get a good used working one? The junkyard around here just have like 94s and that body style and I dont know if they are the same. If anybody has a good working one email me at the91gvr4@dsmtalk.comThanks guys!

Love the username. Quite appropriate for a 1G DSM owner.
